My South African Adventure

November 2014

Here goes my recall and opinion of the South African adventure. When I first heard about the trip and said “I’m in” I never expected to see, do, and learn as much as I did. The experience was more than I ever could have imagined. The many places we visited, the unique accommodations, the different experiences we encountered (safaris, elephant rides, helicopter rides, unique resteraunts, seals, penguins, Robben Island, table mountain, ostriches, and much more) were amazing and unforgettable. Meeting the black people and seeing the positive interactions with the white as they worked side by side and yet so many had so little. This was definitely the trip of a life time. The company was terrific and Marius (the guide) was so knowledgeable and respectful and so attentive to all our wishes. (He was a real gem). Barb you put together an amazing adventure and made the “I’m in” so worth it. I would do this again in a heartbeat!!!!  Thank you to my “golden girls” for adding to the amazing adventure and THANK YOU to you for the insight and planning into making this journey THE BEST!!!

About the Author
In 1996, Marius du Plessis made a career change and started working at a medium sized tour company in, Cape Town. He qualified as a tour guide and was soon on his way to becoming a top guide. A year later he joined a big tour operator specializing in day tours and charters. It had always been Marius’ dream to run his own business and in 2007 he purchased his first touring vehicle, a Mercedes Vito, while still guiding full time. Renting his vehicle to the movie industry he realised the potential, so in 2010 he went on his own, and African Hoopoe Tours and Charters was born. With the 2010 FIFA World Cup being hosted in Cape Town, timing could not have been better. From these humble beginnings African Hoopoe Tours have grown from strength to strength.
